What We Know About Zantac’s Link to Cancer

In September 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was launching an investigation after NDMA, a carcinogenic chemical, was found in certain batches of Zantac.

Valisure, an online pharmacy based in Connecticut, brought the issue to the agency’s attention. Research shows that NDMA may cause cancer in humans; scientists use this chemical to induce cancer in laboratory rats in clinical studies.

In April 2020, the FDA requested that manufacturers remove all prescription and over-the-counter ranitidine products due to the presence of NDMA. Now, patients are filing claims to seek damages for the losses they endured due to their cancer diagnoses.

What Cancers Are Linked to Zantac?

If you developed cancer after taking Zantac, you may be eligible for financial compensation through a lawsuit in California civil court. With this legal pathway, you can collect funds for multiple losses related to your cancer, including past and future medical treatment, lost wages, and physical and emotional pain and suffering.

Former Zantac patients report developing a wide variety of cancers after taking the medication, which include but are not limited to the following.

In some cases, patients had to undergo a bladder or kidney removal after taking Zantac. In addition, some patients report receiving a diagnosis for Crohn’s disease or primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) along with their cancer diagnosis. Zantac might contribute to these conditions as well.

The above list is not exhaustive, and attorneys are accepting claims for patients who have developed multiple types of cancer. To determine if you have grounds for a Zantac lawsuit, speak to a lawyer at Shapiro Legal Group, PLLC.
