Xarelto Attorney

*Please note that we are no longer accepting clients for Xarelto claims

Xarelto is a brand name for rivaroxaban, an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that treats and prevents the formation of blood clots by blocking certain clotting proteins, reducing the risk of blood clots and strokes. Xarelto is one of the first new oral anticoagulants available as an alternative to older blood thinners such as coumadin and warfarin. Unlike these older medications, Xarelto does not require frequent blood tests, making it an easier treatment option for patients.

Unfortunately, there are severe side effects to Xarelto such as internal bleeding. Connect with a Xarelto lawyer from Shapiro Legal Group, PLLC if you or someone you love has suffered serious side effects from taking Xarelto. Free consultations online or by calling (888)640-3784.

Xarelto History

Xarelto was developed by Johnson & Johnson with Bayer AG and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2011 to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a type of blood clot in the leg, which can lead to pulmonary embolism (PE), a blood clot in the lung, in patients receiving hip and knee replacement surgeries. In 2012, the FDA approved Xarelto to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (a heart rhythm disorder that increases the chance of clots forming in the body). The FDA has repeatedly declined to approve proposed wider uses of Xarelto for patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) or to prevent clogging of heart stents.

Why is Xarelto Potentially More Dangerous?

All blood thinners can cause patients to bleed or bruise more easily or take longer to stop bleeding when cut or injured, which carries the risk of bleeding emergencies. Patients taking warfarin who suffer from excessive bleeding can be treated with vitamin K injections, but there is no similar antidote for those on Xarelto, making bleeding events much more dangerous and potentially even deadly. Xarelto can also cause an allergic reaction in some patients.

DO NOT DISCONTINUE XARELTO USE WITHOUT SPEAKING TO YOUR PHYSICIAN. Stopping suddenly can increase your risk of blood clot or stroke.
